Product Review: Kobo Aura ONE

By Grace Cunningham   |

Here at Luxury Lifestyle Magazine we’re always on the look out for product evolutions from some of our favourite brands, and after an introduction to Kobo in 2015 with their H2O model we were looking forward to trying out their latest model, the Aura ONE.

Setting up the Aura ONE is just as simple as the H2O making for a stress-free, non time consuming experience that reminded us of why Kobo are one of our top eReader manufacturers.

What we loved during our trial was the level of personalisation you can create within the device to make the whole experience just how we liked it. With the option to change the font style (with 11 to choose from), choose from 50 font sizes and adapt the colour, sharpness, colour temperature and light settings it was made the reading experience even more comfortable for our eyes.

A common fault with eReaders is the screen either being too bright or too dull, but this isn’t a problem with this Kobo device thanks to it’s front-light technology adapting to all conditions. The device can be set to ‘auto’ mode for this purpose with the option to programme in ‘bed time’ so that the device corrects itself daily to suit your routine.

And it’s not just the common backlight fault that Kobo have resolved with the Aura ONE.  Weighing just 226g, the Aura ONE is so lightweight that not once during review did we need a ‘rest’ from reading due to carrying the weight, making the overall experience a delight.

The Kobo Aura ONE is a firm favourite here at Luxury Lifestyle Magazine thanks to its lightweight properties combined with its technical abilities.

Measuring 195.1 x 138.5 x 6.9 mm , it is the perfect size for travelling meaning you can say goodbye to weighing down your luggage with books, and instead, carry one small device that can hold as comprehensive of a library as you wish.  It’s 8GB memory is double the capacity of the H20 model we previously reviewed, allowing you to store more literature and indulge in a variety of genres.

In addition to it’s dimensions, the Aura ONE also carries travel friendly capabilities with HZO Protection™, leaving it waterproof up to 2m for up t0 60 minutes and panic free for those nerve twitching moments around the pool or at the beach.

Most importantly, did it survive those ‘can’t put the book down’ moments without running out of battery? Thankfully, yes,it most certainly did. With a battery that lasts up to 1 month from fully charged the fear of being left to wait for a charge up is dramatically reduced and leaves you to enjoy the novel word for word.

All in all, the Kobo Aura ONE provided a personalised, thoroughly enjoyable experience suitable for all-seasons from those cosy winter nights in to lounging by the poolside. It’s a definite wish-list item for us. The Kobo Aura ONE can be purchased from Argos at £189.99.
