Getting to know leading aesthetic doctor & psychiatrist Dr Galyna Selezneva

By Felicity Williams   |

Dr Galyna Selezneva is a leading aesthetic doctor and psychiatrist, currently practicing at one of the world’s top clinics, Dr Rita Rakus in Knightsbridge.

A definite go to for all things beauty – she is renowned in the industry for her expertise in non-surgical body sculpting treatments. What sets her apart is that she really wants to understand the motivations of her cosmetic patients, when she knows what makes them tick, she knows how best to change their body.

Galyna tells us more about her background and her tips for a summer body.

Tell us about your background…

My background is in psychiatry and I am also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists; this gives me a very unique understanding of my patients and what they are going through in regards to the concerns of their appearance.

I myself went thrown multiple body ‘stages’ experienced yo-yo dieting and can probably write a ‘what not to do guide’ to weight management from my own experience. Probably similar to my patients, I have a very busy lifestyle trying to balance work and personal life, so I do know how precious time is in modern life. This is why I use technology to achieve natural results in less time

How did you get into the beauty industry?

I was born to a family of doctors. My mother took me to see a dermatologist at the age of 13 when I started having skin problems, which is when I realized that it is easier to prevent problems than to deal with consequences later on, so I practice preventative medicine. In the 90s my family pioneered the use of technological medicine and I used my first ever radio frequency machine in 1999. Plus as a woman, I follow all the latest beauty and fashion trends and embrace my age with a few little secrets!

Where did you train?

I trained in Ukraine and completed postgraduate training in the UK, but the world of aesthetic medicine is very fast-paced and specific. I travel often for my training, for example, I attended Coolsculpting University in California, USA and regularly travel to the US for to re learn about all the recent trends and most up to date treatments.

What has been your career highlight to date?

Being acclaimed in Tatler’s Cosmetic Medicine Guide two years in a row for my body treatments as best in Coolsculpting But the true highlight of my career was a present that my 74-year-old patient and bride-to-be gave me; she decided to wear a white dress and have bridal flowers, because she felt so confident after her treatments …before she wanted to wear beige!!!

Which are your top 3 recommended treatments and why?

It has to be skin tightening, body contouring and SPF protection.

Are there any treatments that you can recommend for summer in particular?

Arm definition: all my patients are worried about the summer fashion and no sleeve dresses so my signature treatment is “The Chanel job” where we first use Coolsculpting to reduce and define the arm and then ULTRAcell to tighten the skin on the arms.

The bum lift: magnetic muscle induction machine, amounts to 6 months of Pilates in 6 sessions.

Bikini body: Leg treatments targeted at reducing cellulite and defining the knee.
