Celebrate World Whisky Day in style with Redbreast Dream Cask

By Dan Cole   |

New members of The Birdhouse offered the chance to win a rare tasting sample of the new Redbreast Dream Cask.

Very few of us require an excuse to enjoy a drop of quality whiskey. Which is why, here at Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, we were delighted to find out that there is an entire day dedicated in its honour.

Today is World Whisky Day – bringing together thousands of fans of the ‘water of life’ around the globe. A cursory glance at the organisers’ website shows that events are taking place in Ireland and around the world. However, if you’re like us you’ll be looking to celebrate World Whisky Day with something a little special.

Thankfully, that’s where Redbreast Irish Whiskey comes in. With over a hundred years of excellence in Irish whiskey, the most awarded single pot still Irish whiskey in the world is releasing an exclusive, limited-edition Redbreast Dream Cask Pedro Ximénez Edition to mark World Whisky Day 2019. What’s more, Redbreast is giving away a rare Redbreast Dream Cask tasting kit to one very lucky reader.

A new member will then be chosen at random to win the exclusive prize. All entries will need be over 18 at the time of enterting. The full terms and conditions can be read here.

As you would expect from Midleton Distillery, County Cork, the Redbreast range is crafted exquisitely, and Dream Cask represents the dream Redbreast whiskey of Master Blender, Billy Leighton. The cask represents the coming together of four unique whiskey journeys spanning 20 to 33 years in age – including a rare Pedro Ximénez-matured Irish whiskey – which have been vatted together and married in the Pedro Ximénez butt. Its’s a first for Redbreast and the Midleton Distillery.

The result is a unique interpretation of the signature sherry style of the Redbreast range – it’s a luxuriously smooth and rich Irish whiskey with assertive spices and sweet, ripe fruit that slowly evolves into exotic fruits and berries, reminiscent of the classic Redbreast character. Bottled at 52.2% ABV, just 924 bottles of Redbreast Dream Cask Pedro Ximénez Edition will be available through the Redbreast online private members’ club, The Birdhouse, from 3pm on 27th May at the RRP of €380.

“Rather than try to seek out another extraordinary cask from the Midleton inventory like the inaugural Redbreast Dream Cask, we set out to create a new Redbreast Irish whiskey like you have never tasted before,” said Leighton.

“The coming together of three exceptional casks, originally destined for Redbreast 21, and a rare Pedro Ximénez butt is a first for Midleton, and the careful balance of sweet, spice and sherry flavours offers a new and complex take on the classic Redbreast Christmas cake flavour profile,” he continued. “It’s sure to add an extra cheer to your World Whisky Day celebrations this year!”

Dream Cask Copper fill Label elements

Crafted from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills, the Redbreast family is characterised by full, complex flavours of fruit, sherry and spice and a wonderful, creamy mouthfeel. If you know your whiskey, then you’ll know that the Redbreast name carries significant weight in the industry. The brand proudly stands as the best-selling single pot still Irish whiskey on God’s green earth since it was established in 1912 by Gilbey’s, one of Dublin’s finest wine importers and merchants, and was given its name due to the company chairman’s hobby for birdwatching.
