Restaurant Review: Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar & Grill at London Hilton Syon Park

By Georgie Bentley-Buckle   |

Conveniently located just seven miles from central London The Hilton Syon Park is ideal for time poor Londoners looking for a retreat from the buzz of the city, without having to sacrifice the precious hours of the weekend on travelling. Set within 200 acres of parkland, under the reign of the Duke of Northumberland for 400 years the property hosts 137 spacious, modernly designed guest rooms, as well as a must try restaurant under the Marco Pierre White umbrella of fine dining establishments.

Located proudly behind the bar walking into the sleek dining space in parallel gave us the impression of stepping back to (what we believed) a smart 1970s restaurant would have been like, unintentional or not, regardless we enjoyed this re-wind of time on our Friday evening. Beautiful olive green furnishings and walnut coloured wood ensured a welcoming setting, whilst the musician’s soft keyboard melody further softened the dining atmosphere. The menu comprises of dishes that you would expect from any given traditional steakhouse and described as being ‘delicately built with the superior quality of Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill’ with the impressive wine and champagne list sitting side by side in harmony with the dishes within the menu. Typical dishes include 28 day dry aged native breed steaks in fillet, sirloin, rib eye, T-bone and Chateaubriand cuts. Catering for all, the restaurant also offer vegetarian and fish options.

Elegant starters that were presented onto our cream table cloth which, due to our indecisiveness we decided to share, were a light and creamy prawn cocktail and a smart mini baked camembert drizzled with a sweet balsamic, an old favourite of mine. As you can imagine being a steak house the menu is geared around the generous options of steak and sauce pairings on offer. We opted for a T-bone with a cream of mushroom sauce and a blushing cut of sirloin, both with triple cooked chips and devilishly hefty onion rings. The most tempting of the menu was the plethora of ‘pick me’ sides on offer, not to be resisted; we chose the mac and cheese and creamed spinach. As with anyone who has a preference to red meat will know, it has an everlasting love affair with great red wines and after slight deliberation over the extensive wine list, with the many preferable options we chose an Argentinian, San Juan Malbec.

After dinner, the bar is an incredibly inviting option that sits next to the steak house that we had no intention of avoiding. Great service from the restaurant transitions through to the bar and guests are encouraged to relax and listen to the live entertainment, with cutting edge mixology in a stylish and contemporary setting at the heart of the hotel we were able to choose from an accomplished menu of cocktails, vodkas, rums and single malts.

On reflection this 100-seater restaurant serves locally-sourced produce and delicious cocktails in a cosy yet vibrant setting, creating a perfect atmosphere that can be shared with friends, family or colleagues. Dynamic but smart and retaining an elegance that appeals to all, the restaurant itself, away from The Hilton Syon Park hotel is an impressive stand-alone establishment that I would recommend.
