Restaurant Review: Paasha at JW Marriott Pune in India

By Jyoti Balani   |

Nestled elegantly on the 24th floor, Paasha is the roof-top lounge of the JW Marriott Hotel in Pune. With its plush decor and new age design, this lounge cum bar cum restaurant is a hot favourite with most locals and tourists. With a bird’s eye-view of Pune’s nightlights, oomph extraordinaire and high energy lounge music, Paasha is perfect for a special date or a celebration.

Adorned tastefully in flowing drapes, comfortable couches and teasing lights, this elegant restaurant made up of glass, woods, copper and whites opens into the idyllic rooftop lounge with a skylight bar. Paasha is the perfect place to socialize, meet new people and spend an enjoyable evening with friends.

I have often visited Paasha when I wish to unwind after a hard day’s work. It is Pune’s very first high rise restaurant with ample seating that affords enough privacy for everyone even when the place is full.

The new menu has several exciting additions apart from popular preparations from the North West Frontier. During my recent visit I tried the Sabut Surkh laal Murgh (spring chicken spiced with red chillies, mustard oil, fenugreek and a mélange of spices finished in a tandoor) and the mutter aur peethiwali aloo ki tikki (potato cakes with fresh peas and soaked yellow lentils, tempered with asafetida and spiced with black cardamom, ginger, green chillies, coriander) for starters.

Contrary to popular belief Indian cuisine pairs very well with wines and I enjoyed a glass of Indian white wine from their extensive wine selection. For the main course I ordered the Dhingri mutter Makhana (a delicate combination of peas, mushrooms and lotus seeds) along with their Zaffrani Murgh Biryani (a mixture of basmati rice and chicken cooked with onions, pounded chillies and cooked on Dum). A meal in Paasha is incomplete unless one has tried their decadent Kulfi Falooda (frozen milk dessert)

In a nutshell:
With a chic outdoor lounge seating, a large central bar and plush indoor seating, friendly and efficient service and delectable Indian food, this restaurant is unique in every possible way.
