Restaurant Review: Rika at the Park Hyatt Hyderabad, Hyderabad in India

By Jyoti Balani   |

As one enters the trendy and elegant Rika at the Park Hyatt Hyderabad, it’s impossible to not feel mesmerized by it’s unique design. The art and décor of Rika transports you into an elusive and imaginative world. Whether it is the wine racks, or the murals, or the bar installation; every element is curated to create an experience that stands out.

The latest addition to Park Hyatt Hyderabad’s culinary portfolio, Rika is derived from the name Paprika and is a trendy and elegant restaurant with its unique concept and philosophy of dining and culinary theatrics. Rika redefines the Hyderabad evening experience in a dramatic destination which curates modern Asian dishes under the umbrella of chillies based on their scoville units. The interiors of Rika have been aesthetically curated to create spaces that tell a story and offer an experience. Armed with a dash of Asian, the designs in this restaurant are contemporary and modern.

Rika has a contemporary and elegant design

I was surprised and delighted in Rika every second what with the aromas of chillies being grinded and crafted into pastes right in front of me, to live teppans and sushi bar with chefs rolling fresh sushi, sashimi and more in a style and taste that is unique to the city of Hyderabad. The array of dishes created a blank canvas interpretable in a very bespoke and personalized way.

The culinary focus at this modern Asian restaurant is a reinvention of the mundane- it adheres to a concept versus a genre. It unites dishes under the common umbrella of Chillies and their corresponding scoville units. The cuisine revolves around modern Asian – Chinese from the famed China House at Grand Hyatt Mumbai, Teppan from the iconic TK’s at Hyatt Regency Delhi and Japanese cuisine, all with hints of chillies from across the globe.

The Teppanyaki experience is a highlight not to be missed

In Hyderabad, Park Hyatt is synonymous for its finest Italian restaurant Tre Forni and The Dining Room which offers Indian and International cuisine. “Rika sets the stage for a culinary journey that’s alive with drama, spice, and wonder through the magical streets of Asia. Let us tell you our story of love speckled with hits of chilli that will elevate your senses and keep you guessing with every scene that unfolds in the theatre that is…Rika”, said General Manager Park Hyatt Hyderabad, Thomas Abraham.

It was fascinating to discover a community table right in front of the Teppans for those who enjoy watching their food being curated right in front of you. The restaurant also has a Private Dining Room for those who would like to enjoy a private evening experience. Open every day for dinner, dining at Rika is like undertaking a journey full of fun and energy with great music. Culinary theatrics along with some of the most innovative cocktails served at the bar by a team of highly experienced mixologists make it into a delightful experience.

The restaurant boasts a luxurious private dining room

Chef Li from China House at Grand Hyatt Mumbai has been part of the Rika culinary team to bring to the city what Mumbai has savoured for a decade of his specialties in Schezwan cuisine. Chef Myo Zaw Aung is renowned for his exquisite fusion technique paired with modern cooking methods and artistic plating. With over 24 years of experience, he brings his top-notch culinary expertise to Rika as the Executive Chef – Asian. Mixologist Roxanne Read at Rika who is from South Africa with over 9 years of experience redefines and revolutionizes the art of mixology and raises the bar by a few notches above the expected to bring to the city of Nizams some of the most unique cocktails one has ever heard of !

I tried the colourful Chicken Baos, Tuna Tetake with champagne dressing, the very uniquely plated sushi platter; the teppanyaki prawns with garlic fried rice and came back super impressed. The talented chef at the teppanyaki counter created prawns in yellow curry for me. Abhik at the bar counter created a cocktail called Cloud and Sky along with Peach Chili Ginger Immortal Cup and Rosemary Grapefruit Gin Fizz! The friendly chef Myo created a really unique sushi which can be eaten like one eats ice cream in a cone. Dining at Rika is definitely very interactive and a uniquely interesting experience in every way. Definitely worth several visits when in Hyderabad!

Unique cocktails are a feature of this delightful restaurant
