Restaurant Review: STK Steakhouse, Westminster in London

LLM’s Georgie Bentley-Buckle visits STK Steakhouse Westminster, a modern steakhouse fused with a chic lounge, bar and bowling alley hidden at the back.

Despite Westminster’s less than exciting reputation, ever so often, a respected chef or restaurant brand choose to settle among its central streets. This includes one of the two internationally acclaimed STK London Steakhouse outposts. Attached to The Westminster Hilton Hotel, here you’ll find a modern steakhouse fused with a chic lounge, and as we uncovered, its very own single lane bowling alley, hidden at the back.

The space is a reflection of its nearby sister branch nearby on The Strand: a widespread bar and dining space filled with generous round booths complete with reflective silver detailing and bold lavender lighting. This makes STK a place perfect for fun-loving long lunches and indulgent dinners with a focus on high-energy social occasions: largely on, and offline too.

In keeping with its interiors, the menu too is a mirror image of STK Strand. As a steakhouse, the majority is headlined with its prime cuts: the true stars of the show. This includes the opportunity to order a variety of sublime Wagyu cuts from the speciality Wagyu beef menu that launched in September last year. Available to diners at both STK London locations, it has been lovingly curated by the restaurant’s team of steak aficionados.

This speciality Wagyu beef menu serving the world-class Japanese marbled meat includes the Olive Fed Freedom Hills Wagyu Tomahawk (450 Days Grain Fed) at £300 per 1.4kg, the Irish Wagyu Ribeye at £80 per 300 grams, and Japanese Wagyu Sirloin, a Sakura wagyu 750 days grain-finished at £40 per 100 grams. Changing regularly, it offers diners the opportunity to try new and exciting cuts, recommended by the team.

Partnering with specialist producers to ensure they deliver their promise, STK London is also proud to be the only in London to serve high-quality Tomahawk steak from Freedown Hill. A local farm that produces a very small amount of thoughtfully reared cattle, this helps them stand their ground in the highly competitive London dining scene alongside 28-day custom-aged USDA prime beef- chosen for its superior tenderness, juiciness, flavour and fine texture.

STK is a dynamic restaurant with an inclusive attitude to dining. Also serving a selection of salads, organic salmon, linguine and sea bass; they subtly dilute their prominent steak selection to ensure a wide variety of high-quality ingredients come from their kitchen each day. This refreshing mixture of dishes also features heavily across the selection of starters, from burrata with fresh heirloom tomatoes, crispy calamari with basil and Padron peppers. The ‘Raw Bar’ also means pescatarian guests have plenty to choose from. Select from six or twelve oysters, meaty pink king crab legs, jalapeño pickled shrimp and a zesty selection of ceviche.

The indulgence ramps back up with their side dishes. This particularly includes the go-to trio of gooey mac and cheese topped extravagantly with truffle and bacon, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes with a parmesan crust, or triple cooked chips. And not stopping there, for pure indulgence, steak toppings range from smoked bacon and blue cheese, grilled king prawns, and shaved black truffle – if you really want your Instagram followers something to double tap.

When it comes to the wine, STK’s sommeliers are on hand to recommend a variety of labels that will complement your meal, from champagne and sparkling wines to white, rosé and red options. Creatively pairing steaks with recommended white labels, as well as the popular go-to reds from Europe and South America; the team will expertly assign your wine depending on the origin of your cut. For something a little lighter, STK offer refreshing rosé wines such as the Rose Gold, Côtes de Provence Rosé also exclusive to STK London.
