How the Covid-19 outbreak is fuelling the premium CBD market

By Lexi Goodland   |

Most of us probably entered the new decade with high hopes and aspirations for a great year to come; New Year’s resolutions were made, plans were put into motion, and less than three months into 2020, all of that came crashing to the ground.

The novel coronavirus, now dubbed Covid-19, first started as a Chinese epidemic back in December 2019. Since then, it has spread across the world like wildfire and has become a global pandemic unlike any other the majority of people have seen before, one that has forced country after country into a national lockdown, Britain included.

While this indefinite lockdown might not have that great an impact on some people, many others will be finding this period of time incredibly stressful and draining. As our lifestyles and routines are thrown a complete curveball, adapting to a new constant environment and way of living can be very challenging. In fact, there is big concern for the effect this current situation could have on people’s mental health.

During this time, it is only natural that people will be searching for a way to make themselves feel better – learning new skills, getting fit and reading are just a few of the activities people are turning to. A slightly more progressive solution that is becoming increasingly popular, however, is the use of cannabidiol (CBD) products. Premium CBD superstore, Bloom Botanics, has seen a sharp rise in their CBD oil sales over the last two weeks and are expecting this trend to continue to grow during this month as well.

It seems like the whole world has gone a little CBD crazy

What is cannabidiol?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the 113 identified chemicals found in the cannabis plant, also known as marijuana, and is the second most prevalent active ingredient after Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the psychoactive element in the plant and the chemical that produces the “high” feeling when consumed.

Unlike THC which intoxicates the user, the effects of CBD are much less intense. Scientists believe that CBD can relieve pain, benefit heart health, alleviate cancer-related symptoms, treat neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as other diseases and conditions, and reduce anxiety and depression.

This latter effect is likely the reason people are turning to CBD products, as a way of combatting any feelings of overwhelming stress, anxiety or sadness they might be experiencing as a result of the volatile predicament we currently find ourselves in.

Types of CBD products

There are a huge number of CBD products available on the market. Thats why it is always best to make sure you are shopping with a reputable company that is able to provide third party lab reports. With a lack of federal regulations, third party lab testing provides insight into what is actually in a CBD product and how much CBD you are really getting.

With hundreds of different strengths, flavours and scents and a number of ways to consume the products, there is no doubt you will be able to find something to suit your needs.

Oils

CBD oils, such as the premium products offered at Bloom Botanics, are one of the most popular method of using CBD. The versatility of oils make them ideal for any person’s needs as they can be consumed orally by swallowing or adding to foods and drinks, sublingually by dropping or spraying under the tongue, and topically as a moisturiser or serum.

Edibles

Another easy and subtle method for consuming CBD is through edibles like gummies, honey, coffee, chocolate, gum and shakes–just to name a few. These can be concealed and consumed without difficulty when required during your daily routine.

Vapes and E-liquids

This is very common among those who already smoke and are looking for a different, non-addictive smoking product, and also among those looking for a more effective method of consuming CBD. Vaporising CBD allows the chemical to be absorbed through the lungs which in turn decreases the length of time it takes to feel the effects and increases the intensity of them as well.

One of the best ways to start taking CBD is nibbling on some CBD-infused gummies

Topicals and cosmetics

From balms, to creams, to masks, to gels, to shower products and everything in between, the list of topical CBD products is endless. Topicals are actually the most popular method for consuming CBD as they can be easily added your daily body care regime, or swapped in with other products, and are perfect for those who do not want to ingest CBD as an edible product.

Capsules and tablets

Other discreet ingestible CBD products include capsules and tablets. These can come in either a soft-gel/liquid capsule or a hard tablet-like shell, vary in dosage, size, flavour and colour, and can be either chewed or swallowed depending on the instructions for the particular product. A lot of people favour these ingestible products over the other types available because they lack the earthy, plant-like taste and odour that can sometimes accompany such products like CBD oils.

It is important to remain calm during stressful periods, but it is also important to remember that it is okay if you need a little help doing this, especially now, and people are turning to CBD as their helping hand.

Adding premium CBD products into your daily routine – as well as ensuring you work out regularly, keep your brain fit and healthy, and engage in other stimulating activities – can help to counteract any underlying feelings of stress and anxiety you may have so you can get back to feeling like your usual self, despite the COVID-19 chaos.
