Transforming your home with exquisite, bespoke furniture from The Wood Works

By Melanie Kruger   |

For many of us, one of life’s main goals is securing that dream home – and sometimes, when you see a house or apartment that has something really special about it, you just know that it’s destined to be yours. The size and layout are ideal, the area is perfect, and the gardens are beautiful – what more could you possibly ask for? And if you can truly picture it as the backdrop to a happy home life, then all signs suggest that you should do what you can to make the dream a reality.

There are few things more exciting than moving into a brand new home – if you put aside the stress that comes with it, of course. Settling in, inviting friends round and putting the finishing touches on your pad all bring a certain sense of joy – but knowing that someone else has potentially lived there before you, how do you create that personal feel, as if it has only ever belonged to you?

The Wood Works

Putting your own stamp on a new home is possibly the most thrilling part of all. A new kitchen, some carefully chosen pieces of furniture, beautiful décor and accessories can all transform a space – and opting for specially designed, bespoke pieces will ensure that it feels entirely unique.

If you don’t have a natural eye for it, then envisioning how your home could look is not always easy – let alone figuring out how to get from A to B. But a little research and some digging on Pinterest is usually enough to get those creative juices flowing. Think about the colours you like and what you want your home to say about you and your family, and you’ll be well on your way. Once you have got a picture of what you want in your mind’s eye, then there’s usually someone who can help you to make it happen.

Bespoke luxury furniture company, The Wood Works, is a great place to start, integrating the best of bespoke furniture craftmanship with the latest production technology, enabling them to realise the most sophisticated concepts with artistic flair, unmistakable character and impeccable quality.

Founded in 1990 by Richard Delane and his wife, Donna, the venture is the product of a long line of family history, with his grandfather, Morris Delane the first to dabble in furniture making on his arrival in London in 1942. Arriving from Poland to learn cabinet making, he spent years perfecting his craft in numerous furniture workshops lining the streets of Hackney and Hoxton.

It was Morris’s sons, however, who first developed the family craft into a business, setting up Denmor Furniture as young men. Their trendy china cabinets were picked up by stores as prestigious as Harrods and Selfridges – a surefire sign that they were onto something special.

Fast-forward to 1990, and Richard, who had recently joined the family trade, had set about setting up The Wood Works – and today, its furniture is some of the most sought-after in the UK.

“We began by making nursery furniture for John Lewis, but were also creating bespoke furniture on the side, and this naturally took over and became the heart of today’s business. Over time, we hired and trained a small team of designers, craftsmen and fitters who are now all a valued part of The Wood Works family”, says Richard.

For those in search of a truly unique piece of furniture, The Wood Works offers a personalised experience from start to finish. With all furniture made in the UK, customers are invited to visit the workshop and watch every step of the process as it happens. Making their choices from an inspiring selection of the finest materials and finishes, they get to see their ideas drawn on paper before any of the work begins – before seeing their personal visions embodied in exquisite, hand-crafted pieces of furniture.

“Relocating to Hertfordshire was a natural progression to meet the need for a dedicated facility, housing the head office, the showroom, and the factory”, Richard explains. “Clients enjoy visiting us and being able to experience the magic of seeing the drawings become exquisitely hand-crafted pieces they can touch and feel.”

Amongst The Wood Works’ claims to fame is the fact that they built an entire kitchen for Britain’s Got Talent judge and former Mystique singer, Alesha Dixon – and with many other well-known customers on their books, it speaks volumes about the quality of their work.

Such has been the success of the company, that plans are now afoot to open a flagship show room in Mill Hill, North West London – which is due to welcome its first customers through the doors in June 2018.

“If you’ve just moved into that dream home and are keen to make it your own, then bespoke, hand-crafted furniture is the best way you can make it unique. We can help to ensure that it’s really personal, too – catering to your specific needs as well as injecting a bit of your own personality into it”, says Richard.
