Salon Review: Karine Jackson’s vegan hair colouring service
Words by Giorgia Guazzarotti.
Gone are the days when being vegan meant going hungry at the restaurant, giving up stylish clothing and sporting the same hair colour all your life. These days, the vegan lifestyle is enjoying a wave of popularity that extends to every facet of life, hairdressing services included.
A long-time advocate of cruelty-free products, Karine Jackson has recently announced she is now offering London’s very first all-vegan cutting and colouring in her exclusive Hair & Beauty Salon, located in the bustling heart of Covent Garden.
The high-end vegan hair colouring treatment is performed with Organic Colour Systems, the world’s only hair colouring brand that is completely free of ammonia, the foul-smelling chemical that is to blame for the damage inflicted to the hair during the dying process. Proud holders of the PETA cruelty-free logos and sponsors of Green Peace, Organic Colour Systems also use the lowest possible amount of PPD, the allergenic ingredient that makes hair colour permanent and covers grey strands.
Australian-born Karine’s career in the hairdressing industry spans over 20 years. After obtaining her qualifications back home, she jumped on a plane to London, where she joined the Charles Worthington team. Her incredible talent for cutting and colouring saw her rising up the ranks rapidly. In 2003, she took the plunge and opened her own hair salon, which is frequented by the likes of Hollywood actress Neve Campbell, British actress Rachel McDowall, and BBC presenter Lucy Siegle. Always at the forefront of hair styling trends, Karine is the current holder of the Most Wanted Hair Trend.
To complement their vegan hairdressing, the salon also offers a wide selection of vegan-friendly snacks and drinks (almond and soya milk are both available for tea and coffee), which are generously topped up throughout the appointment.
Karine and her team are all extremely passionate about their craft and dedicated to giving their clients a memorable experience they won’t forget anytime soon. Style Director Alasdair Thomson took the time to understand exactly what kind of look I was going for and select the right shade that would complement my complexion. His outgoing personality and easy chat made the time fly by quickly as he started to whip up a few colours to create the perfect blondish shade to liven up my brown locks and wave the mixture throughout my hair. I couldn’t have been happier with the end result. The vegan hair colouring treatment is extremely gentle and nourishing and imparts new life and a burst of vitality into your hair.
The minute attention to detail throughout every stage of the process, the professional but friendly atmosphere, and the ethical values espoused by the owner and staff make Karine Jackson’s Hair & Beauty Salon the go-to place for anyone looking for a complete hair makeover or a partial restyle. Whether it’s a classic balayage, a flaming red, or a bright pink, they’ve got you covered!
If you need one more excuse to visit the salon, this August Karine Jackson’s annual colour festival is raising money for the Little Princess Trust Charity, an organization provides real full lace wigs and hairpieces for children who have lost their hair while fighting cancer. You’ll leave the salon feeling good and looking like a million pounds!
