Talking fashion and style with Catherine Zeta-Jones, founder of luxury clothing brand Casa Zeta-Jones

By LLM Reporters   |

Catherine Zeta-Jones’s new brand, Casa Zeta-Jones is a luxurious clothing line that was designed and curated to be everything you need to transform your world into a thing of beauty. Inspired by the undeniably captivating elegance of Old Hollywood, this fashion collection is simply ravishing, and Catherine curates each collection herself hoping to inspire her wearers.

We had the pleasure of sitting down with the leading British actress and style icon to discuss everything from the Casa Zeta-Jones ready-to-wear line to her favourite style trends.

How would you describe your style?

I look for things that are timeless. I’ve never been someone who follows every passing trend. I like quality pieces that are well made, that fit well, and that I can wear for a long time.

Which one item from your wardrobe couldn’t you live without?

A great black pant. It’s why I designed the Linda Pant for my collection. It’s such a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down and works equally well for daytime at the office, or dinner in a nice restaurant. Put on a cute pair of flats, or a pair of fabulous heels. You can’t go wrong.

What are your current wardrobe staples?

Well, having been home a lot for the past year, comfort has been very high on the priority list. I have a collection of beautiful caftans that are so easy to throw on and still look put together. But even as we come out of lock-down, comfort still counts. That’s why my collection has the Maya Drawstring Pant and Kyla Hooded Sweater. You can’t feel confident when your clothes are pinching or itchy. And everything looks better when you feel confident in it.

Which pieces are you loving most from your Casa Zeta-Jones ready-to-wear line?

As I mentioned, the Linda Pant is a go-to piece. But I also can’t get enough of the Mia jumpsuit. It’s easy to pull on and easy to dress up or down with different jewellery and shoe options. I also love the Kennedi sweater. It’s a beautiful vibrant pink with small gold buttons to accent the wrists.  Sometime a bold pop of colour like that can really brighten up your day.

Where did you draw inspiration from when creating this collection?

I really drew my inspiration from my life, and my women friends. I wanted pieces that would work for women with busy lives and who want quality pieces that will stand the test of time.

Who inspires your style the most? (celebrity, family member, etc.)

My Mam definitely inspires my style. She always looks put together and takes pride in her appearance. She was also a seamstress so understands that a good fit is essential, and that proper tailoring can really make an outfit. For the red carpet, I’ve always been inspired by the looks of Old Hollywood. Elizabeth Taylor has always been a style inspiration to me. But also Rita Hayworth, Grace Kelly and Katherine Hepburn.

If you had to live with only a capsule wardrobe containing ten key pieces, what would they be, and why?

That’s a tough one. Definitely a great caftan. A pair of perfect black pants.  Jeans that fit just right. A white button down blouse like the Savanna from the Casa Zeta-Jones collection. A simple black sweater. A really well structured jacket in black or navy.  Something easy to look great and stand out in like the Charlotte Snake Print Shirt Dress. A black t-shirt and a white t-shirt for layering. And a spectacular red dress, just because. Wait, this doesn’t count shoes, right?

Where do you like to shop?

Lately it’s all been online. But usually, I love to travel, and I love finding great pieces on my travels because then every time I wear them, they have extra meaning for me.

What is your favourite trend at the moment?

Women embracing what makes them feel good. That should always be the number one trend.

How has your style evolved since you started out in the fashion world?

I think in my twenties, I was still experimenting a bit more, and had some hits, and a few misses. But as women get a little older, we learn what looks good and what we feel most comfortable in.

What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever been given?

Better to buy a shirt you can wear for ten years, that to buy a ten dollar shirt you only wear once.
