Top three moisturisers for men

By Jake Daniels   |

Every man should know the importance of a good quality moisturiser, but with so many on the market, finding the right product for your skin type can seem more than a little overwhelming.

When selecting a moisturiser, look for ingredients such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid, both of which are effective at retaining moisture. Taking into consideration your daily shave, it’s also worth looking out for cooling or calming ingredients to ensure that skin remains comfortable and free of irritation.

Moisturiser should be applied twice-daily after washing the face. A ten-pence sized amount should suffice, but it’s best to apply bit by bit so as not to overload the skin. Dot over the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin, massaging in gently until thoroughly absorbed. You don’t want any shiny residue, so if it gets to that point then you know you’ve gone too far!

Here are my current top three moisturisers for men.

The Bluebeards Revenge ‘Cooling’ Moisturiser (100ml)

The Bluebeards Revenge is on a mission to get men to “man up and moisturise”. A very worthy campaign. The brand’s ‘Cooling’ moisturiser brings its typical semi-macho style into the equation with this excellent product featuring what they describe as the “manliest of ingredients” – in fact, who else could get away with creating a modern cosmetic laced with exotic compounds such as extracts of prickly pear, stinging nettle and fenugreek! Not as vicious as they sound in fact as each of these compounds are highly regarded for their moisturising qualities and ability to re-invigorate the skin. The Bluebeards Revenge range has won a number of top male grooming awards over the last few years so you can be ensured of a high quality product.

Men-U Matt Moisturiser Oil and Fragrance Free Ultra Concentrated (100ml)

Unlike women, men have thicker skin, bigger sebaceous glands (leading to oilier skin) and facial hair to contend with and for those that shave regularly, they have the greatest need for an effective moisturiser. Men-u presents a practical answer to daily shine with this fantastic matt moisturiser. Oil-free (less shine to start with) and fragrance free (no allergens – less risk of irritation) with sebum absorbers that help combat areas of greasy skin, especially around the T-Zone. The absorbers kick in for a matt finish whilst the moisturiser is readily absorbed. Includes Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) which helps tackle the free radicals that age the skin by attacking the collagen and reducing elasticity. A great buy.
