We talk fashion and style with supermodel and MS sufferer Camerone Parker

By LLM Reporters   |

Camerone Parker, former FORD supermodel, has emerged as the leading celebrity voice in patient advocacy for MS and treatment.

Today, she delights audiences nationwide, sharing her unbelievable story of being diagnosed with MS and hiding the disease in a highly competitive world of international fashion so that she could earn money to pay for treatment.

Featured throughout her storied modeling career in over 350 magazines, the former face of Olay has walked the runways for designers like Vera Wang, Giorgio Armani, and Bagley Mischka.

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Camerone and discussed everything from her signature style to her favorite fashion trend.

How would you describe your style?

I am that edgy, cool girl with an intriguing street-style vibe. Memorable and Unique.

Which one item from your wardrobe couldn’t you live without?

A full length mirror. Try and get dressed without one!

What are your current wardrobe staples?

Well it’s summertime, my closet is filled with vintage flowy kaftans from all over the world. A dozen or so pairs of wedge raffia sandals and several choices of light weight sunglasses create a vibrant yet effortless glam. It’s perfect for a hot sunny day!

Who inspires your style the most? (celebrity, family member, etc.)

Linda Fargo, Senior Vice President and Women’s Fashion Director of Bergdorf Goodman. She is an extraordinary purveyor of glamorous exclusives and designer collaborations. The unique Schiaparelli collection Linda brought to BG in October 2018, was definitely historic. The iconic label has not been available outside its Paris headquarters since 1954. I have a true admiration for her!

If you had to live with only a capsule wardrobe containing ten key pieces, what would they be, and why?

I can honestly say I just wouldn’t be inspired or motivated living in a capsule collection! For me, fashion is forever art. The ability to transcend a mood or feeling would almost be impossible living within these ten basic pieces!

– Well-tailored all-season black trousers

– Tailored longer-length all season black jacket (mid-thigh).

– Durable Black Denim (with 1% Lycra) fitted/relaxed jeans (no skinny or cropped jeans)

– White short-sleeve T-shirt (not tissue-thin)

– Black long-sleeve turtleneck – tunic length and lightweight.

– A colorful longer length scarf (perfect accessory that has numerous possibilities)

– LBD – fitted and hits mid-calf

– Opera Cape/Coat.

– Black Saint Laurent Paige Sandals (can be worn with everything listed)

– Black Saint Laurent Billy Boots (worn with everything except LBD)

Have you had any fashion disasters over the years?

OK Really? :: laughing :: Who hasn’t?! I’ll just say this, a so-called hot dress? I was the epitome of a hot mess. Whatever “look” I was going for I needed to KEEP looking. As in look girlfriend, DO NOT look at this EVER!

Where do you like to shop?

It is such a beautiful gift having personal relationships with a handful of designers. From ballgowns to handbags I truly adore one-of-a-kind pieces. Here are a few of my global favs:

Retailer: Bergdorf Goodman

Custom Handbags: Anthony Luciano and Peach Carr

Haute Couture: André Laug (Bert Keeter, Director of Design)

Ballgown Couture: Mikael Derderian

Wearable Art: Emil Gampe

Millinery: Philip Treacy and KOKIN

Camerone Parker

Eye Wear/Optical: Sharona Optical / Horizon Eye Specialists

Jeweler: Suzy Landa

Vintage: Robert Black (Fashion by Robert Black), Nicolas Delgado (The Fine Art of Design) and Misty Guerriero (Vintage by Misty) are my trusted curators.

Specialty Coats: Libertine

Favorite RTW Designers: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent.

What is your favorite trend at the moment?

Hands-down the Strong Shoulder. I am obsessed with its very modern return. Balmain, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent lead the way showing razor-sharp shoulders paired with denim day looks to evening cocktail couture. This isn’t a 90’s recycle – it’s much more refined, ‘tailored intention’ I’d say.

What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever been given?

Real style is a matter of being yourself—on purpose. OWN your look, Stop Traffic! Always make it a fashionable moment!
