Family fun at the Hotel Bahia del Duque Resort in Tenerife

By Natasha Heard   |

When you just cannot wait to head south for some sun and quality family time then you can be sure that Hotel Bahia del Duque on Tenerife’s sublime southwestern coast will provide you and your children everything you need for a wonderful stay.

As you head off on your family holiday, you want to be confident that your little ones or teens will be entertained and kept safe throughout as well as being well fed of course, and this five-star hotel and resort with beach access, kids’ clubs and private villas are sure to offer just that. Just steps away from two beaches and with five swimming pools, seven restaurants, spacious, luscious gardens to roam and the world’s number one water park within very short reach, you really couldn’t ask for more from a family holiday than what is available at this Canary Island retreat.

Stay

Hotel Bahia del Duque is a stunning resort on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and the 25-acre estate with a traditional 19th century Canarian colonial style 346-room hotel boasts 58 extra suites and 40 private villas on site.

Whether you require connecting hotel rooms for your family or a two-bedroom private villa to sleep five, you can be sure that the amenities will be top-class, and the accommodation will be stylish and welcoming. The elegant Villa Las Mimosas benefits from expertly designed interiors with Egyptian cotton sheets, colourful Moroccan carpets and marble en-suite bathrooms, but what will the youngsters is the private swimming that comes with the villa. There’s also a solarium terrace with a dining area on which to enjoy those family meals including continental breakfast to your door, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, an in-room chef, floating brunch, and 24-hour room service.

Play

When you are ready to set foot outside of your luxurious villa, you can expect to come across a range of activities and amenities designed for toddlers and teens alike. For those teenagers who like to hide away, the Teen Lounge is a perfect spot and comes complete with a PlayStation, Nintendo Wii, board games, a television and relaxation area, so if they fancy making some new friends and escaping the family for a bit they can do so here.

For more active youngsters there are a wealth of activities that await, adventures to be had and tournaments to be won on the two tennis courts, paddle tennis courts, squash court, and even pitch and putt. Of course, the beaches are a big draw and with direct access and activities including paddle-boarding, kitesurfing, and, of course, swimming and the all-important sandcastle building, you could never be bored here. Let’s not forget the aforementioned water park in close proximity – Siam Park, which has been consistently voted as the best water park in the world by TripAdvisor voters and boasts a huge range of water slides and attractions for families.

Kids-Play-Chessbdd

Back and the hotel and the five pools are a big draw, especially when the Canary Island weather is so warm and inviting all year long. There is a pool just for kids but there are also freshwater and heated freshwater pools and saltwater and, you guessed it, heated saltwater pools.

Should you need a babysitter during your stay or any products that help your day go with ease such as a microwave, steriliser, baby bathtub or car seats, you just need to ask and little ones can expect to benefit from their own bathroom kit, an arrival gift, hair brush and robe and slippers too.

The mini club (a complimentary service) is where the kids (from aged four) will want to be and, once they have visited, they most probably won’t want to leave! With entertainment and games organised, treasure hunting, cooking workshops, face painting, shows, plays, bouncy castles, painting workshops, a mini disco and more, tearing them away for family time will be a chore.

Eat

Among the hotel’s restaurants, which draw inspiration from Basque, Italian, Gallic and Mediterranean cuisine, are a selection of delights to please young palates. Children will no doubt revel in the fajitas, small bites, pasta dishes and popular desserts served up in La Hacienda, while La Trattoria offers those Italian dishes than please all palates. El Bernegal is the hotel’s main restaurant and provides bountiful breakfasts – best enjoyed on the terrace – and dinners with themed buffets and show cooking to sample an array of international cuisine.

But, of course, if you reside in one of the exquisite villas then you may just make use of those in-room chef services and delight in dining poolside in your own private space. Bliss.
