The Champneys story began 95 years ago, heralded by eccentric Latvian massage pioneer and naturopath, Stanley Lief. After suffering with an incurable heart condition, Lief nursed himself to health using naturopathy, which is a combination of exercise, diet, and massage, and set out to educate the masses with how stress affects the body with those findings proving to be just as relevant today as they were nearly a century ago.
Lief converted the Champneys we know today into a ‘Nature Cure’ resort championing a variety of holistic health treatments such as juice diets and colonic irrigation. The world-renowned multi-million spa group is favoured by celebrities, film stars, and prominent figures alike.
The destination spa group has been with the Purdew family since 2002 and continues to offer pioneering beauty treatments, with more than 100 to choose from to take your wellbeing to the next level.
Today there are five Champneys health resorts in the UK with health and fitness at the top of their agenda, as well as six city spas; the respected Beauty college at Tring, and now freshly unveiled to the public their first Spa in the north of England; Mottram Hall.
Situated in the idyllic village of Mottram St Andrew, the elegant countryside estate of Mottram Hall is a wonderful place to stay in the UK. The four-star hotel is set within 270 acres of immaculately landscaped gardens, and the Grade II listed building boasts an 18-hole Championship golf course, perfect for amateurs and professionals alike.
In addition to some all-new leisure and dining services, the luxury hotel offers fairy-tale wedding packages as well as celebratory event settings and meeting and conference rooms for team building days, and is located just six miles from Macclesfield station and seven miles from Manchester airport.
The 18th-century Georgian country house hotel is home to 120 surprisingly spacious bedrooms with boutique soft furnishings to give a cosy home from home feel. Superior rooms have stunning lakeside views, while feature double rooms located on the ground floor have their own private outdoor patio area.
If it’s a special occasion the suites are perfect as they have a separate living area or an outdoor patio overlooking the stunning landscaped gardens. There’s only one room with a four-poster bed – the Hogarth Suite – so be sure to specify when booking!
A whopping £15 million has been invested by Champneys to modernise the Cheshire estate whilst retaining the building’s original charm. Ten million alone has been spent on the 33,000 square ft spa with state-of-the-art facilities including thermal experiences by DaleSauna.
Leading architects Darling Associates and award-winning Spa Designers Sparcstudio were behind the phenomenal transformation which already boasts a little black book full of high-profile clientele and celebrities.
The new facilities include a 20m swimming pool, poolside Cabanas, a Brechel Sauna, cold room, organic sauna, and more, while there are 15 treatment rooms and a beauty lounge which offers manicures, pedicures and make-up services; as well as the UK’s first Champneys barbershop.
A cool 160k has been invested in new gym equipment and those who seek to become members of the health club will receive unrivalled benefits such as exclusive access to the spa as well as the gym.
Food menus celebrate British heritage with an international influence. From three course healthy fine dining to traditional afternoon tea, light bites, lunch and breakfast, the award-winning restaurant Carrington Grill also features two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.
Founded on the basis that health, beauty and wellbeing are inextricably intertwined, nutritious and healthy dining is offered in the Spa restaurant which also features stunning panoramic views.
A midweek mini getaway starts from £149 pp.
