The Champneys story began 95 years ago, heralded by eccentric Latvian massage pioneer and naturopath, Stanley Lief. After suffering with an incurable heart condition, Lief nursed himself to health using naturopathy, which is a combination of exercise, diet, and massage, and set out to educate the masses with how stress affects the body with those findings proving to be just as relevant today as they were nearly a century ago.

Lief converted the Champneys we know today into a ‘Nature Cure’ resort championing a variety of holistic health treatments such as juice diets and colonic irrigation. The world-renowned multi-million spa group is favoured by celebrities, film stars, and prominent figures alike.

The destination spa group has been with the Purdew family since 2002 and continues to offer pioneering beauty treatments, with more than 100 to choose from to take your wellbeing to the next level.

Today there are five Champneys health resorts in the UK with health and fitness at the top of their agenda, as well as six city spas; the respected Beauty college at Tring, and now freshly unveiled to the public their first Spa in the north of England; Mottram Hall.
