Hotel Review: INNSIDE New York NoMad, New York in the USA

By Joceline Sharman   |

Just a stone’s throw away from many iconic and 21st century sights – from the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden to new fitness hotspots such as Soul Cycle – INNSIDE New York NoMad is as luxurious and stylish as its neighbours … including a very upmarket dog hotel next door. Designed for the savvy professional traveller who expects more than a bland corporate business hotel, INNSIDE by Meliá has perfected the cool vibes of an urban lifestyle hotel with 5-star service.

Staying in one of their capacious 313 rooms, guests can expect neutral and contemporary décor, with a splattering of neon colour, and oversized floor to ceiling windows offering impressive views of the Manhattan skyline – mine was from the 19th floor! It was a real highlight waking up to the breathtaking view as the room filled with natural light from the crisp November day. The bathroom, although slightly compact, had a powerful rain shower to wash the fumes of the city away after a day… and night stomping around the various districts in Manhattan.

What made my stay so wonderful was the service: staff were always on hand to help at the drop of a hat without hovering expectantly for you to rummage in your handbag, full of duty free, paperwork and miscellaneous items, to provide a tip. The courteous reception team offered a fantastic welcome after a congested drive from the airport, greeting guests with a sense of humour and a relaxed attitude – perfect for any Brit wishing to feel at home!

Its great location is undeniable, which for New York is a USP every desirable hotel must have. Located at 132 West 27th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues in the up and coming NoMad district, INNSIDE is within easy reach of the city’s iconic landmarks and attractions. Being close to the flower shops and markets in Chelsea as well as the trendy Meatpacking district which is home to some of the hippest bars and coolest late night spots in the city, the hotel is in a great position for exploring both in the day and at night, suiting all types of traveller.

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Impero Caffè

With the city offering some of the best cuisine in the world, hotels have had to buck up their ideas and produce a spread of delightful gastronomic cuisine, long gone are the days where a basic service would suffice. Hotel restaurants, particularly with a famous chef collaboration, are a destination in themselves for city dwellers, and INNSIDE New York has put itself on the map with its signature restaurant, Impero Caffè, run by celebrity chef Scott Conant. With a career spanning nearly 30 years, Scott brings a deft touch and unwavering passion, creating a remarkable dining experience with soulful food and a convivial atmosphere. As one of the country’s top chefs and restaurateurs, having run the kitchens of famed Italian spots such as il Toscanaccio, Chianti and City Eatery, Scott Conant’s Impero Caffè, which opened in March this year, has become the city’s new destination for gastronomy.

Sitting down to a late dinner, after a ferocious spin class, fresh pasta was the perfect antidote to combat jetlag and exhaustion. Open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant serves high end bistro-style Italian cuisine, including risotto, seafood and pasta dishes. No meal should begin without a tipple in the hotel’s bar which serves an extensive range of cocktails, from old-fashioned beverages to seasonal hand-crafted drinks, to quench your thirst and fire up your taste buds. Dinner started with the perfectly salty and tender Olive Oil Poached Octopus which melted in my mouth and was divine. This was followed by braised rabbit and mint pappardelle, which was so delicious and fresh, that I am longing for another portion. This is food at its best, with distinctive New York and Italian influences, so good that I have avoided Italian food on my return to London to keep the memory alive of Scott Conant’s inventive yet classic menu.
