Hotel Review: JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar, Mumbai in India

By Jyoti Balani   |

Located one kilometre away from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Mumbai, JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar with its 585 intimate rooms is a blessing for travellers who don’t want to struggle with the traffic after hours and hours of air travel. I was fortunate to spend a weekend recently at one of their suites and came back relaxed and rejuvenated. As one enters the lobby, the beautiful chandelier sparkling with lights takes your breath away. I was escorted to my suite by the efficient hotel staff and fortunately didn’t have to wait in the lobby for a long time.

This tastefully designed hotel has interesting choices for food enthusiasts. For a hearty yet healthy breakfast a visit to the classy yet contemporary JW Café is a great idea. Apart from serving the best waffles in Mumbai, this restaurant is a great place to enjoy parathas (stuffed Indian breads) of all types whether filled with boiled potatoes or paneer. JW Cafe is an all-day dining multi-cuisine restaurant with an alfresco seating area where Indian specialties alongside an array of International cuisines such as Japanese, Thai, Arabic and Western can be enjoyed. The cafe is spacious, vast, and welcoming with white and grey walls. The ethnic entrance door and the intriguing bell curtains add a subtle charm to the restaurant. There are different sections to the JW Café right from an open bar to live food stations to salad counters, a live pasta counter and a wide seating area. This Café also offers an alfresco dining area allowing guests to enjoy their meals out in open.

Romano’s is a great choice for those who prefer authentic home-style Italian cuisine inspired from the regions of Sicily, Milan, Rome, Naples and Florence. Talented chefs use the freshest of locally sourced, organic ingredients to create a masterpiece of every dish. Romano’s bar offers innovative drinks and a selection of Italian wines to complement the menu. Expert bartenders create new cocktails everyday to amuse guests and present it on the table with a lot of drama and fanfare. Even though I am not much of a cocktail drinker and prefer a glass of wine, I ended up trying a couple of their innovative cocktails. The private dining area is perfect for an exclusive and intimate dinner with friends and family. Romano’s is beautifully done up with wooden panels and flooring and is spread over two floors; dining area at the lower level is superbly laid out and has charming photography on facets of Italy adorning the walls and pillar. At the heart of the restaurant is a beautiful open kitchen, designed to create regional fare amidst a warm and inviting ambience. The restaurant’s eclectic Italian wines and the exquisite cellar collection of premium wines from around the world best complement the striking flavors of Romano’s. Chef Roberto Zorzoli uses the freshest, organic ingredients that are brought together through collaboration with environmentally conscious suppliers and homemade products from artisans.

A visit to the first Spa by JW in Asia Pacific was sheer indulgence and I came out feeling extremely relaxed. The spa offers a host of holistic therapies based on four benefit states – Calm, Renew, Indulge and Invigorate. The spa comprises of 7 treatment rooms which includes a couple treatment room as well as an Ayurvedic treatment room that provides the goodness of age-old beauty recipes made from fresh and natural ingredients. Facilities include a private jacuzzi for couples, a dressing and make-up room, two steam and sauna rooms and two separate jacuzzi for men and women. Spa Manager Mahima Sharma suggested I try the Signature Spa by JW which is a relaxing experience with a Thai massage stretching followed by a specially designed massage using deep renewal and slow rhythmic movements and lasts for 90 minutes.

An extension of the lobby, the JW lounge is a great space to spend time in the day time as well as in the evening. Natural light brings life to this area during the day and is artistically lit in the evening to suit the changing mood. Designed like an extravagant living room, the JW lounge offers an exquisite array of food and beverage offerings. During the day, the JW lounge takes on the role of a Café offering sumptuous sliders, varieties of tea and coffee making it an ideal place to network and have day meets. As evening descends, the Café transitions into a sophisticated, stylish Lounge offering enticing liquor concoctions like Blood and Sand, Hanky Panky and JW House Tea.
