A few streets from the Champs-Élysées is the boutique hotel Le Pavillon des Lettres. Each of the 26 rooms is not numbered, but instead dedicated to a letter of the alphabet and a famous writer, this is woven in with lines from their work featured as integral design elements among every guest room.
From prolific Danish author Hans Christian Andersen to French novelist Gustave Flaubert and my room dedicated to the French poet ‘Victor Hugo’, the 26 rooms which include two suites featuring views of Eiffel Tower and the Grand Palais make up this quaint property, a member of the prestigious SLH group (Small Luxury Hotels).
Meanwhile, downstairs is The Salon where breakfast takes place each morning, The Honesty Bar which offers guests complimentary tapas between 5-8 pm each day and library which ties into the hotel’s overriding literary theme and offers hotel guests the opportunity to read everything from novels to comic books; great classics to newly published works, both in French and across international languages.
Interiors have been executed to be ‘very French’ in line with its romantic Parisian setting, with elegant and modern features from architect and interior designer Didier Benderli (previous design work including sister hotel Le Pavillon de la Reine, the restaurant Kitsch in New York and the caviar restaurant Pétrossian in Monaco). Benderli describes his interiors here as an alliance of the arts: combining literature, painting and sculpture in a subtle dialogue. Colours and materials contrast each other and work together, ‘creating physical interpretations of the pleasure of reading’.
The tall, narrow building is interlinked with rooms which are stacked one on top of another, leading up to the suites on the top floor. The corridors are dark and murky in comparison to the light and contemporary rooms, this, however, offers a pleasant contrast with the rooms saturated with natural light.
Centrally situated on the 8th arrondissement, a catalyst for Parisian culture, where strolling and shopping meet, this prestigious neighbourhood is woven with some of Paris’ rather calmer streets moments from some of the city’s busiest hotspots such as Jardin des Tuileries the Louvre and the scenic bridges that cross themselves over the Seine. Le Pavillon des Lettres is also well situated for retail therapy, high-end haute couture boutiques line the nearby streets, alongside Sotheby’s, Christie’s and the sumptuous shops of Avenue Montaigne.
Le Pavillon des Lettres is a friendly and intimate hotel suited to creative and culturally inclined individuals. The hotel’s relaxed but convenient situe offers a slower pace of life, ideal for laissez-faire mornings downstairs in The Salon with a café au lait, whilst casually turning pages of a book from their library. The hotel’s friendly team also aim to further inspire guests throughout the year with between two to three art exhibits that showcase collections of paintings, photography and naturally, literary works too.
