The D Las Vegas named Best Las Vegas Casino by USAToday
In October, USAToday announced a hotlist of the best 10 casinos in Las Vegas, according to 10Best readers, with The D swinging into the top spot.
USA Today 10Best readers have been gaming and gambling, dealing cards and rolling the dice to find the very best casinos in the city. The Readers’ Choice Awards were announced on 29th October, just in time for any trips to Vegas during the festive holiday season. The top ten list includes the usual suspects and well-known names as well as a few surprising entries located off of the main Vegas strip.
Though it seems too good to be true, some people’s real job is being a Las Vegas expert. USA Today put together a panel of these experts alongside the 10Best editors in order to create the initial shortlist of 20 nominated casinos. The top 10 winners were then selected by reader votes, which were submitted over the course of 28 days.
The results left legendary Vegas hotels The Wynn, The Venetian, and The Cosmopolitan in 4th, 5th and 6th place respectively. Perhaps the most famous casino in the world, Caesars Palace, which acted as the backdrop for the unforgettable film ‘The Hangover’ in 2009, landed in 7th place. Interestingly, Caesars opened its first ever ‘non-gaming’ resort on Bluewaters island in Dubai earlier this year, perhaps nodding to a change in direction for the brand.
Topping the hotlist was The D, a mammoth 34-storey, 638-room hotel and casino in Downtown Vegas. Located at the Eastern end of the Fremont Street Experience, The D originally opened in 1979, so is by no means a newcomer to the scene in Nevada, but was brought up to its current elegance in 2012 with a $22 million renovation. Being the tallest building in Downtown, it’s easy to spot from almost anywhere on the Strip.
In 8th place was the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa, a five-star hotel situated just outside of the hustle and bustle of Vegas. Forming part of Station Casinos, Red Rock can be reached by car in just 20 minutes from the Vegas Strip. But with luxurious hotel rooms, a gorgeous spa and lots of choice of either fine dining, relaxed restaurants and buffets, you might not even need to leave the resort.
The beautiful Bellagio, famed for its breathtaking water fountain displays which run every 15 minutes, every day of the year, placed 9th in the ranking, followed by the M Resort Spa Casino in 10th place. The M Resort is one of the more unexpected additions to the list as it is not considered a household name, despite its 390 room luxury hotel, 8,500 square metre casino, and location in the affluent Southern Highlands neighbourhood.
The 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards also brought attention to other casinos across the United States, not focusing solely on Vegas. This included voting for the best casino restaurants, the top casino hotels, and best players clubs.
