We’re already a third of the way through 2022, but that doesn’t mean that the football season is winding down – and, with both the UEFA Champions League Final and the UEFA Europa League Final coming up later this month, not to mention the long-awaited arrival of the fresh 22-23 season of the Premier League, the edge-of-your-seat action is only just getting started.

Suffice it to say, there’s plenty of top-quality football to enjoy over the coming months – and with the World Cup sneaking up on us in the final couple months of the year, things are set to get more and more exciting for sports enthusiasts.

So, what are the top football competitions to bet on in 2022, and the best sportsbooks to use for the tournaments? Here, we take a closer look.

The 2022 UEFA Champions League Final

The Champions League Final is tipped to be one of the most-watched football matches in 2022, with Liverpool set to battle it out against Real Madrid in a bid to earn the victory.

Scheduled to play out in Paris on May 28, it’s set to be one of the tensest final matches in years, and with key Liverpool players including Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané due to face off with Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior in a nail-biting 90-minute game, there’s all to play for – but with Liverpool currently the bookies’ favourite to triumph, we know where we’ll be placing our bets.

In addition to the Champions League Final, May of 2022 is also the month where we’ll finally get to see the culmination of the Europa League.

The final of the tournament is to be played on May 18 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, Spain, and the teams making their way to the final this time around are Glasgow Rangers and German side Eintracht Frankfurt. The final is sure to be one of the top football matches to wager on in 2022, with both teams in with a solid chance of taking home a victory in the competition. But currently, the bookies’ odds are in Frankfurt’s favour, standing at 8/13 – while Rangers are, for the time being, outsiders at 7/5.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup

While the FIFA World Cup is usually a firm fixture in the British summer of sport every four years, this year’s tournament is looking a little different. The 2022 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Qatar between November 21 to December 18, will be the first time we’ve seen the tournament fall in the latter months of the year due to the intense heat of the country during its usual schedule.

One of the biggest stories from the World Cup qualifiers is the failure of Italy to make it to the group stages. As one of the most successful nations in the history of the World Cup, it’s a shock to see Italy watching from the side-lines – and England, who only narrowly missed out on a victory to the side in last year’s Euro 2020, are no doubt taking note. In fact, the British team is one of the favourites to scoop the trophy at this year’s World Cup, currently enjoying equal odds with France and only falling slightly behind Brazil. Could football finally be coming home?
