Thinking of becoming a digital nomad in 2023? The allure of swapping your home base for sunnier climes and being able to move from luxury hotel to luxury hotel as and when you please is hard to ignore, and as society continues to embrace remote working, there’s never been a better time to take the plunge.

As a digital nomad, you can log on and get your work done from anywhere, anytime – but before you get started, you’ll need to ensure that you’re fully equipped with the right tech to ensure everything runs smoothly.

There are many great modern tech apps that are designed to help you to do your job from any location, stay in touch with friends and source entertainment as you explore foreign countries at whatever pace you choose. So, if you want to stay organised and have more fun on your travels, we’ve compiled a list of the must-have apps for digital nomads to download now.

Hopper

If you plan on moving from destination to destination frequently, then Hopper is a handy application that you won’t want to miss out on. Showing you the best time to book an airline ticket while taking into consideration factors like price, search volume, your own personal preferences for the trip, delays, and any other factors that might impact the price, there is also a useful section comprised of the latest flash deals – so it couldn’t be easier to secure your seats quickly and with minimal hassle.

And best of all, it’s free to download on your Android or any Apple mobile device from the Google and Apple app stores.

Google Maps

With Google Maps, you can quickly and easily find out the best route to take to get yourself from A to B and dodge the traffic to save on time. If you’re not driving, then it’s also useful in helping you to work out the best transportation mode for your needs, and will also help you to locate the best local cafés and museums to work from or visit at your leisure.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re going on foot or you’re traveling by bus, train, or car; it’s essential to know your whereabouts when you’re abroad, and as a handy added bonus, you can even access it offline – so if you’re out of data and can’t find a free Wi-Fi connection then you can still work out your next move with no stress.

Mobile gaming

The digital nomad lifestyle is all about achieving a better work/life balance, which means entertainment is important, too. Mobile gaming apps are therefore a useful source of fun that will keep you occupied on long journeys, and will help make any delays seem to pass more quickly.

Before you embark on any trip, it’s wise to load your tablet or smartphone up with a selection of great mobile games – and the more variety, the better. Thanks to the dramatic expansion of the mobile market over recent years, there are now thousands of different mobile games available to choose from, ranging from puzzles and brain training to action and racing games, with something to suit all tastes.

If you’re a fan of games of chance or are craving the glamour of the casino, then there are also a host of mobile casinos to log onto that not only offer some excellent welcome bonus offers, but that also have a rich portfolio of high-quality mobile games such as Roulette, Blackjack and Baccarat, that you can play whilst on the go.

Trello app

Lingoda

If you’re planning on spending an extended period of time in one specific country, then it’s important to have at least some basic knowledge of the local language. You can’t expect everyone to know English, and in more remote locations, they certainly won’t – so download yourself a language app and start brushing up on some basic vocabulary and phrases and you’ll have a much easier time getting by whilst there.

Lingoda is an application that offers access to native speakers that will help you improve your fluency or learn almost any new language from scratch – and is downloadable on a range of different mobile devices, including both Apple and Android.

Trello

Trello is a famous project management app that will be a Godsend when you’re working remotely, whether you need to keep up to speed with what remote employees or co-workers are doing, or you’re managing multiple projects whilst on the go.

Based on the Kanban method, it features different boards that are practically separated for your own organisational needs.  For example, you can create boards that are specifically designed for social media projects, or work on different projects, each with a different group of participants, all whilst keeping track of the progress with each task on that list.

Trello is available on desktop as well as mobile, and the two synchronise automatically for optimal convenience – so it’s really a great option that will give you an overview of all of your tasks in one place, regardless of time or your location.
