Getting your luxury pad ready for spring: 5 spring cleaning musts for a fresh year ahead

If you’re planning a spring refresh to get your home to the lofty level it should be, read on for five spring cleaning musts for your luxury abode.

There’s little quite as satisfying as spending time in your home that has been freshly cleaned and organised and, with spring around the corner and the odd sunny day gracing us with its presence, we’re starting to be reminded that longer and warmer days are ahead.

Shedding ourselves of the gloomy winter of the past, spring signifies a fresh start and a clean slate for the following seasons, and our homes are no different. Spring cleans are a great way to give our interiors a refresh, while sprucing up any outdoor spaces to make way for sociable barbecues and days basking in the sun, when it makes an appearance.

When you reside in a luxurious space, there will likely be more work to undertake – larger areas to cover, antique furniture and rugs that will need specialist cleaning and repairs, perhaps a pool, hot tub or sauna that will need careful attention and upkeep, and so the services of a professional should never be underestimated to ensure deep cleans are completed to the highest standard.

Carpet cleaning and luxury rugs

While it’s essential to keep our homes clean and tidy throughout the year, a spring clean affords us the opportunity to focus on areas that deserve a little extra attention, and regular carpet cleaning is one of the most important. Prolonging the life of the carpet, keeping hygiene levels high, reducing allergen levels, maintaining colour, vibrancy softness and removing stains and smells – the importance of thorough and professional carpet cleaning services shouldn’t be underestimated.

Regular deep cleans of the carpets are important because they remove the deepest dirt from the parts of the carpet the vacuum doesn’t reach. Carpet shampoo and cleaning solutions with an efficient carpet cleaning machine gently budge and pull stubborn dirt spots and stains, as well as finer particles that could cause damage to the fibres. The right carpet cleaning products will also kill germs and bacteria, further promoting better carpet hygiene overall.

A professional carpet cleaning company can do a great job quickly and efficiently, and they will have special industrial suction machines to remove the water and get your carpets drier, sooner. The dirtier your carpets are, the deeper the clean, and so the longer they take to dry, but industrial suction can help to speed the process up.

Kitchen deep clean

Deep cleaning a kitchen takes several steps, so a little bit of pre-cleaning is in order first

How many unused appliances are gathering dust in your kitchen? Do you know what pantry items are past their use by date? If you’re struggling to answer these questions then it might be time to give your kitchen a clear out.

It may seem like too big a job, and one that fills you with a little dread, but now is a good a time as any to head to the kitchen and give it the sort out that it no doubt needs. In addition to ensuring all food items are actually in date and edible, as well making sure small appliances are of use to you, it’s also a good idea to clean the inside of all cupboards and drawers, get rid of any crockery that’s seen better days and wash the tops of any wall cabinets.

It might be best to break up your tasks and spread them out over a week or so to save you feeling the fatigue, but it will be worth once you’re finished with it.

Dressing room declutter

Whether a walk-in wardrobe, dressing room or a simple storage space for your clothes, shoes and handbags, it’s always a good idea to have an annual refresh to make sure that you’re happy with the quality of your belongings and to also make sure there’s nothing sitting around unloved that could be put to better use.

Firstly, go through everything to ensure that you still like it, it fits and that it’s something you actually like wearing or using. If not, wash it, bag it up and take it to a local charity shop so that it can see another life. For anything you’re keeping, make sure it’s in good condition – if shoes need repairing or handbags or hats need cleaning, ensure the professionals undertake these tasks to keep your luxurious goods in safe hands. Rotate your clothes so that they get good wear and also take a look at your make up, jewellery, skincare and hair care items and declutter where needed.

Windows and their dressings

This is a great time of year to give the outside of your windows and doors a good clean, while also taking down any curtains to give them a wash, too. Any moss that’s built up outside can be cleared away and any gaps or cracks can be fixed, while inside a thorough clean of the windows, ledges, curtains and blinds will set you up for another year.

Get garden ready

While we’re talking of the outside, you’ll find that spring is the ideal time to get in the garden and give it a spruce up before you find that you’re far too busy having fun out there to be working on it.

You’ll certainly need some help here as there will be much to do, from clearing drains and gutters of leaves, cleaning any furniture, reseeding patchy lawns, power washing patios, treating any decking areas or repainting, refreshing and fixing anything that needs it. And that’s before you’ve even started tending to your plants!
