Here are our top tips to giving your home the fresh new feel it needs this spring.

Ridding your home of a weary winter and giving it a fresh, clean look and feel; the importance of an annual spring clean shouldn’t be underestimated.

Any abode no matter how big or small, can look and feel luxurious, and one of the main elements, without a doubt, that keeps any home up to a high standard is its cleanliness. Style and décor also play a huge part in this, but it’s no use simply buying nice things if you aren’t going to keep them looking their best.

While it may seem like an arduous task, it will feel fantastic once your spring clean is all done for another year, and there’s no problem in asking for help from the professionals to get all of your jobs competed to a high standard, especially if you have a sprawling home or little spare time to do so yourself.

Here are our top tips to giving your home the fresh new feel it needs this spring.

Plan ahead

You’ll likely have a growing list of things to include in your big clean, so planning ahead is key. Write down everything you’d like to achieve, categorise the jobs, figure out which tasks you can or want to complete by yourself and those that can be undertaken by a professional, such as cleaning your gutters, pool or the outside of your windows. Be sure to contact the professionals well in advance to book them in when it’s suitable and set aside plenty of time for your tasks.

Declutter

A sure-fire to have a home that not only looks a lot clearer, but feels it too, is to declutter. From clothes to books to kitchen utensils, crockery, and trinkets that are unused or unwanted, it’s time to get rid. Grab a box or bag and go through your wardrobes, shelves and cupboards – and other storage spaces like the attic or garage if you dare – and fill it up with anything you no longer need or want, and let it have another life by dropping it off to your local charity shop.

Decluttering will also free up space for those items that are well used but often left out on surfaces, so this will be a win-win for you.

Deep cleans

From carpets to curtains and beds in between, your soft furnishings and furniture will need a good clean to ensure that it stays looking its best for the coming months. When it comes time to vacuum your mattresses, make sure that it’s a warm day so you can pop the windows open and air out the beds and bedding as well. Skirting, windowsills, those jobs you’ve been putting off, now is the time to get it all clean and reorganised.

Putting it all back

This point will offer you a moment to consider whether something needs to be replaced, if it has seen better days; whether you can reorganise a room, so that it works better for you; or perhaps it’s time your home saw some simple swaps for the season.

Ensuring that the main elements of your interiors are kept fairly neutral will allow you to switch out smaller items or accessories with the seasons. Cushion covers, throws and rugs can be switched up for lighter, summery versions in terms of both material and colour, and you can stay bang on trend with a few easy switches. The current pink and green trend is perfect for this time of year, so if you’re looking to introduce pink rugs in your home with soft green elements, now is the time to do it.

Don’t forget about the garden

This is just the right time of year to give your garden a little spruce up before the good weather that spring and summer should bring entices you outside more. The same principles as above apply – declutter, clean, replace, and reorganise – and any items that are taking up room in your home, such as furniture being stored in the garage, will leave this internal space clearer for another six months enabling you to give it a thorough clean in the meantime.
