Say hello to your summer hair and beauty routine

Keep your hair healthy and your skin glowing all summer long with these hot weather hair and skincare tips.

By Caroline Cooper   |

Spring has officially sprung, which means it’s time to start thinking about revamping our skincare routines. The harsh winter months can take a toll on our skin, leaving it feeling dull and lifeless, while our hair and nails can become brittle and prone to breakage.

So, to get that glowing, bronzed and sun-kissed look we all dream about, we’ve come up with some top tips that will leave your skin, hair and nails revived and nourished, leaving you looking radiant and ready for when it’s finally time to don those sandals and summer dresses.

Exfoliate

The first step in getting your skin summer-ready is to exfoliate. Exfoliating removes all of your body’s dead skin cells, which can dull your complexion if left untreated. It also helps unclog pores by removing dirt and debris, which prevents breakouts and keeps skin soft and smooth.

Exfoliation also improves skin’s overall appearance both instantly and over time, brightening your complexion by buffing away dull skin. Opt for a cleanser that uses natural, chemical exfoliants so that you don’t damage the skins natural protective barrier.

Nails

The sunnier weather means rocking those sandals, and nothing makes you feel more pulled together than fresh, shiny neat nails. Whether your jetting off to a warmer climate or a guest at a summer wedding, Kodi Base deliver the perfect salon-worthy manicure that will give you optimum gloss.

Long-lasting and chip resistant, the natural rubber base coat nail polish adapts to both natural and gel nails after prep – so whether you’re looking for a soft natural nude, or a punchier tropical tone, Kodi Base is sure to elevate any look.

Prep the skin

After cleaning and cleansing your skin, and before applying make-up, look to adding lightweight hydrating serums and moisturisers to your regime that includes a cocktail antioxidants and vitamins C and E. This will ensure you protect your skin against free radicals and pollution that presents in damage such as wrinkles.

Tan

There is no better feeling than having a sun-kissed glow and whilst we would all love to have a natural tan from sailing around St. Tropez, a safer and perhaps more realistic way of tanning is using self-tan. There are so many on the market to choose from in various shades to suit all skin types. Whether you want to bare all, or just a facial tan – tan drops are a great option. Many contain additional benefits like hyaluronic acid and vitamins adding extra support to your skin whilst making you look radiant.

Hair

Come summer we start to up the ante in the sun cream stakes as well as our water intake. But more often, we don’t think about what sweltering temperatures, sea, sand, and chlorine are doing to our tresses, and just like you protect your skin from the sun’s exposure, it’s important to do it for your hair too.

It’s obvious, but always wear a hat to keep your hair protected from direct sunlight. Consider applying a conditioning treatment first and leave it covered all day leaving it quenched and hydrated. We’d also suggest using a hair mask at least once a week in summer, your luscious locks will drink up the moisture and, in turn, leave it looking and feeling much more manageable.

SPF

sunscreen

It may seem obvious but come rain or shine always use an SPF. It’s the key ingredient to healthy – and healthy-looking skin. The lack of it leads to decreased collagen, pigmentation and fine lines (to name a few). And whilst we tend to think of SPF’s clogging our pores – formulas have been improved to make it an enjoyable last step in your skincare routine. Take extra care when applying to face, decolletage and hands – areas that are prone to aging.

Hydrate

drinking water

It may be the simplest of them all but one of the most important things that you can do to feel summer ready is to drink plenty of water. Not only will this make you feel focused and awake, but it’s essential for our bodily well-being. When you are hydrated, your joints, hair and skin are lubricated maximising their function and, in turn, leaving you looking and feeling fantastic.

Now all you need to do is sport some oversized sunglasses, crack open a bottle of Pellegrino and bask in the sunshine.
