Just a stone’s throw from Soho Square, tucked away at the end of Carlisle Street,  stands The Resident Soho – a stylish boutique hotel that places guests at one of the most privileged locations in the city and offers ‘affordable’ luxury that is as well suited to the corporate customer as those visiting the capital for leisure.

Filled with trendy shops, restaurants and bars, and known for its theatres, cosmopolitan Soho comes alive at night, with a host of vibrant entertainment options in easy reach – but the hotel is set away from the throng enough that you can still be certain of a quiet and peaceful stay and most importantly, a good night’s sleep.

In fact, while the hotel is seamlessly integrated into its surroundings, a bold winged sculpture of Selene – Greek goddess of the moon and magic – above the main entrance announces you have arrived and can be spotted as you approach. Commissioned by the hotel to represent ‘sleep’ and the promise of a restful stay, it was brought to life by talented sculptor Hew Locke, and is a unique feature that ensures the Resident Soho stands out from the crowd.

Soho is also a mecca for business, with companies spanning film and media to fashion and art found in the surrounding areas, so it’s easy to see why The Resident Soho has become a top choice for the business traveller, too – and if you’re looking for the perfect work/life balance during your stay in Soho, then at The Resident, you’ve come to the right place.

The Resident Soho lobby lounge area
Tucked away by Soho Square, The Resident Soho is located in the heart of London’s iconic West End

Step inside the lobby, and you’ll find yourself immediately captivated by the stylish interior design showcased throughout. Think plush velvet sofas in verdant hues, monochrome armchairs in black and white and bold and beautiful flower arrangements serving as accents throughout. Add a scattering of statement lamps, and you’ve got a cosy, welcoming and thoroughly Instagram-worthy space that makes for the perfect spot in which to relax and hunker down with a book or enjoy a leisurely  morning coffee.

Rooms and suites

The Resident Soho bedroom
The hotel offers 78 rooms spread across seven different room types

There are 78 sophisticated rooms and suites at The Resident Soho, and each provides a haven of tranquility and an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of the city. After a long day out in the city – whether for work or play – it’s just what’s needed, and all rooms are thoughtfully designed to emphasise comfort and feature a host of luxury amenities to ensure your stay runs smoothly.

Considering the hotel’s central location, the rooms are surprisingly spacious, and boast a lavish king-size bed, plush sofa and armchair, and a desk where guests can sit to get some work done. The decor is contemporary, and there’s a large, flatscreen HDTV in front of the bed, which is internet-enabled to ensure you can stream all of your favourite Netflix series or that Apple TV film you’ve been dying to watch. There’s a guest directory on screen too, which provides a catalogue of information about the hotel and the local area, which comes in handy if you have a burning question or are planning what to do with your free time. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant or bar, but there’s plenty of choice in the vicinity, and through the directory you can also find a choice of delivery services if you’re feeling too tired to venture out for dinner.

On that note, all rooms also include a mini-kitchen hidden that is cleverly hidden away behind a set of wardrobe doors on one of the walls – which, considering the hotel doesn’t offer breakfast or have a restaurant on site, is very welcome and comes in handy for whipping yourself up a morning coffee or a spot of breakfast before heading out for the day. There’s a coffee machine with pods, a kettle and a fridge and microwave, as well as some simple utensils – and you could easily cook up a simple dinner in the evening, too. Handily, The Resident Soho offers guests the chance to pre-order some groceries ahead of arrival, which will be put away and waiting for you when you check in – so if you choose to take advantage of this then you could even cook yourself up a simple dinner.

A stylish haven amidst the urban buzz of one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, the hotel is the place to stay for anyone wanting to experience London from the inside out

Depending on your room type, there’s an oversized shower or ensuite bath in which to relax and unwind after a busy day out and about. Luxurious extras like the in-room GHD hairdryer and a shaving mirror are nice touches, while practical, space-maximising additions including luggage racks, under-bed luggage storage and a safe ensure that you can enjoy a comfortable stay in every way.

If you’re looking to treat yourself or are travelling with family then be sure to opt for the opulent Carlisle Suite, which sleeps four people and offers an impressive 536 square foot of space.

One of the highlights of any stay at The Resident Soho, apart from the hotel itself, is its excellent location, which places you at the heart of London’s buzzing theatreland and the West End theatres of Covent Garden. Image credit: c_73/Bigstock.com

One of the highlights of any stay at The Resident Soho, apart from the hotel itself, is its excellent location, which places you at the heart of London’s buzzing theatreland and the West End theatres of Covent Garden. You’re also just a stone’s throw from popular central spots like Leicester Square, Hyde Park and Piccadilly Circus, all of which are easily reachable either on foot or via the London Underground. Tottenham Court Road station is just a five minute stroll from the hotel, while Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus can be reached in eight and nine minutes respectively, providing you with excellent connectivity to the rest of the city.

If you’re looking to head out for breakfast in the mornings, then The Breakfast Club is right on your doorstep, and serves up a wide array of classic dishes ranging from a full English to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, as well as internationally inspired options like the huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos and American pancake stack.

For dinner, make your way to Bob Bob Ricard Soho for all booth French/British dining, or make a reservation at Inamo for Asian-fusion cuisine in modern surroundings and with an innovative set-up that includes interactive tables. You can choose from a selection of Asian tapas, sushi and larger sharing dishes, and if you’re wining and dining a client or business associate or eating with a friend then it’s a great spot for sociable dining.

That being said, if you’re really looking to impress them then it has to be the trendy and luxurious 100 Wardour Street. The ground floor is a relaxed and stylish bar lounge that’s perfect for post-work cocktails or a relaxed brunch, while downstairs in the restaurant, you can enjoy live music as you dine on a decadent menu created by head chef Gerard Lambert.

If you’re just after some drinks, then try the sophisticated Black Book Wine Bar, where you can choose from a selection of fine wines, or head to the Sirocco and Sky Bar Rooftop for innovative cocktails, live jazz and breath-taking views down over the river.

Keen to indulge with a bit of a shopping spree? Then nearby Mayfair, with its opulent boutiques and shops, is the place to be, and the Elizabeth Line will get you there in just two minutes from Tottenham Court Road, while for bigger shops and department stores, Oxford Street is just a minute away on the Central Line.

In a nutshell

A stylish and contemporary hotel enjoying one of the best locations in the city, The Resident Soho is the perfect pick for business and leisure travellers alike, and is particularly well suited to those who like to be just a stone’s throw from the action in one of the capital’s trendiest and most thriving neighbourhoods.
