A new floating lodge accommodation allows guests to completely immerse themselves in the natural Swedish landscape.

This fantastical floating raft is set on the waters of the expansive Lake Degerselet, just south of the Arctic Circle, within the pristine Swedish wilderness.

This three-night ‘Floating Safari Camp’ adventure was launched this week by specialist travel company Off the Map Travel, and is the country’s only accommodation of its kind.

With opportunities for wild swimming, fishing, canoeing, paddle-boarding, and an Off the Map Travel exclusive sunset BBQ on a private island, this is the perfect experience for anyone wanting to get off grid and back to nature.

The anchored floating raft comes equipped with two safari style tents and one twin room, furnished in true Scandi style with double beds, bedside tables and a seating area with views across the river.

The accommodation also has toilet and shower facilities as well as a traditional wood-fired sauna to help guests unwind and relax.

All sports equipment is ready to use on the floating lodge, where despite its Arctic location, lake temperatures reach a balmy 18-25 degrees celsius.

“With the hustle and bustle of modern life, it’s a rarity that we get to completely switch off and immerse ourselves in nature,” says Alex Minnis, COO of Off the Map Travel.

“But that’s exactly what we encourage travellers to do as they enjoy the seclusion of the stunning natural surroundings on our floating lodge.

“Sweden in the summertime has some of the most glorious natural landscapes in the world, with Scandinavian forests and unspoilt lakes which are the perfect location to escape it all.”

Available from June to September, guests will be greeted by their private guide at Luleå Airport who will accompany them on a boat transfer to the floating camp itself.

There’s time for a rejuvenating sauna session before a sumptuous four-course dinner, prepared by their knowledgeable personal guide who doubles as a private chef.

On day two, both breakfast and lunch will be provided by the guests’ personal chef, before they choose from several activities.

Whether guests while away the hours canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming, or simply relax on the raft with a fishing rod and soak up the sounds of the lake, they have everything they need to spend a day basking in the beauty and serenity of their surroundings.

As the sun goes down over Lake Degerselet, it’s time for an evening boat trip and exclusive island BBQ dinner cooked by your own private chef to refuel after a day on the water.

The trip rounds up with a canoe transfer to the Aurora Safari Camp on land, where lunch and a glass of bubbles awaits.

Here guests can take advantage of a secluded forest sauna session and an afternoon to relax in the woods before settling down for a four-course dinner and a night under the stars on the Rane River.

The four-day, three-night ‘Floating Safari Camp’ itinerary costs £2199 per person, on a full board basis, based on two people travelling not including flights.

Travellers also have the option to go self-catered for a reduced fee, with plenty of local shops to stock up in before boarding the lodge which has a full kitchen.

As with any itinerary from Off the Map Travel, each can be tailor-made to fit the wishes and requirements of the guest.

This itinerary includes two nights in the floating safari camp, and one night at the Aurora Safari Camp, private transfers, all activities and all meals.
