The ultimate luxury travel guide to Greece: all you need to know

When to go, what to do, and why you’ll love it.

By LLM Reporters   |

The European country of Greece has long been a popular luxury holiday destination for the discerning traveller. Famous for pristine white walls, stone-floored villas and crystal clear waters, it’s no wonder Greece welcomes around 30 million international visitors each year. The beautiful scenery paired with abundant five-star hotels, and stunning villas means you’re guaranteed to have an incredible holiday when you choose a luxury tour of Greece

If you’re considering booking a trip to the cradle of Western civilisation, here are some of the key things you need to know.

When is the best time to visit Greece?

Few countries have as much historical appeal as Greece

We’ll start by saying that Greece is a wonderful place to visit – no matter the season. But some months are better than others when it comes to a luxurious trip to this European paradise.

The best time to visit is usually outside of the busy summer periods (July and August) as you’ll avoid the crowds and uncomfortably hot weather. During the hottest months, there are occasionally wildfires spreading around Greece and the surrounding islands, so we’d normally recommend going a little earlier or later.

Springtime (April to June) and early autumn (September and October) are brilliant times to visit. Boasting warm (but not stifling) temperatures and fewer tourists, you’ll find it far easier to immerse yourself in the cultural delights.

If you’re looking for a city break, consider going in February or November. With small crowds and cool weather, you’ll find viewing the cities’ attractions far more enjoyable.

What to expect in Greece?

Nowhere conjures up carefree beach holidays quite like the Greek islands

If you’ve not been to Greece before, you’re in for a treat. But here are a few things you’ll need to know before you board your flight.

  • Language – It’ll probably come as no surprise that the official language in Greece is… Greek!
  • Currency – If you’ve got some spare change left over from a vineyard tour in the South of France, you’ll be pleased to know that you can use your leftover Euros on your Greek trip.
  • Plugs – Unfortunately, UK plug sockets won’t work. It’s a good idea to buy a universal adaptor so you’re not caught out.
  • ATMs and credit cards – Like most countries, you’ll find ATMs throughout Greece. Hotel deposits, meals out at restaurants and souvenirs can all be loaded onto a credit card. The only places where you might need cash are small bars or cafes.

Where are the most luxurious places to visit?
