Devon B&B tops UK-dominated list of world’s best
A six-bedroom B&B in the Devon town of Torquay has been crowned the best bed and breakfast in the world based on visitor ratings.
The 25 Boutique B&B (read our review here) came out top and was one of five UK B&Bs in the world’s top 10 in the travellers’ choice 2019 awards organised by TripAdvisor.
“Travellers’ Choice awards take into account the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and opinions specific to each award category; the hallmarks of Travellers’ Choice winners are remarkable service, quality and value,” TripAdvisor said in a press statement.
The 25 Boutique B&B was opened under four years ago by its hands-on owners, Andy and Julian Banner-Price, and in that time has won a staggering number of internationally renowned achievements, awards and accolades.
They told Luxury Lifestyle Magazine: “We were absolutely thrilled to hear that ‘The 25’ has been named the Best B&B in the World. We love creating special and memorable experiences for our guests and receiving their excellent reviews makes our hard work truly rewarding.
“It’s fantastic to win this global award, it’s testament to the absolute delight our guests experience staying at The 25.
“We created our own ideal place to stay at The 25 and are thrilled so many people love what we do.’
They added: “At The 25 we literally took many areas of the building back to the brick and started again. It was an opportunity to make sure we did everything right: from high pressure showers to sockets in the right places, but it’s much more than that. It’s all the little touches that make us such a unique, special place to stay.”
“Daily home baked goodies in your room, pillow mist, mood lighting, hand written notes, Elemis toiletries, bathroom TVs, movies on demand – we’ve tried to think of everything to make a stay with us truly memorable – we’re also blessed with a fantastic location, the English Riviera is renowned for its climate making it a great all year round destination.”
Other UK properties recognised included Lawton and Lauriston Court hotel, which won the award for the best service in the UK, while Devon’s Tavistock House hotel was rated the seventh best small hotel in the world.
Hayley Coleman, from TripAdvisor, said: “Many hospitality awards select winners with a panel of judges but the travellers’ choice awards are different; they are based on feedback from actual guests over the past year. The B&B has long held its status as a British institution, so it’s great to see the UK recognised worldwide for doing the B&B best.”
Tulemar Bungalows and Villas in Costa Rica was rated the top hotel in the world. Guests in the resort’s treehouse-style accommodation count monkeys and sloths among their neighbours and can take advantage of the only exclusive sandy beach in the region.
