Having recently re-opened this famous pub, 34-year-old head chef and proprietor Nick Deverell-Smith has used his wealth of experience and extensive knowledge of working with the freshest seasonal ingredients to ensure that the menu will be a true talking point for both local and visiting foodies. Named the Junior Chef of the Year in 2000, local boy, Deverell-Smith has gone on to work alongside some of the country’s most renowned chefs, including Marco Pierre-White, Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Waring and Eric Chavot, before becoming head chef at Soho House and then Dean Street Kitchen.
The Churchill Arms is his first solo venture and Nick Deverell-Smith has created a range of dishes that any of his mentors would be proud to put their name to. Taking its opportunity of produce sourced daily from the surrounding countryside and local village gardens (he visits his neighbour’s garden every morning to pick sage, rosemary and thyme) you can expect to encounter his top-selling classics such as daily delivered Baked Sea Bass with gently Curried Mussels, 2 day Marinated T-Bone of Pork, Lobster, Calves’ Liver & Bacon and hand crafted Chicken & Mushroom Pies. Even the desserts arrive at your table packed full of nourishing nostalgia and the tastiest ingredients to hand, from Apple & Blackberry Crumble, Poached Paxford Plums or Churchill’s chocolate pudding for two, to quite frankly the best Arctic Roll you’ll ever rock up to! Nick works closely with local suppliers including Todenham Manor Farm where he is currently cooking up a game storm with mallard, partridge and venison.
Set in the heart of the famous Cotswolds in Gloucestershire, The Churchill Arms at Paxford offers you some of the most breathtaking terrain in the whole of England to explore either before or after a hearty meal.
