By Natasha Heard   |

From blissful, awe-inspiring national parks to bustling cities filled with a wonderful array of culture at every turn to stunning seaside towns, Britain is a must-visit for any keen world traveller.

If you are a first-time visitor to the isles that comprise the countries of England, Scotland and Wales, then you may think that London is where most of the action lies, and you couldn’t be more wrong. Yes, the capital city of England certainly holds an exciting mix of cultures, historical sights, restaurants, bars, world-class museums and more, but you really do have to get out and explore as much as you can in order to truly experience the best of Britain.

First-time visitor or returning explorer, if you are based in a foreign country without a visa-free agreement, then you will need to obtain a tourist visa for United Kingdom and your British travels. Don’t let a small document ruin your big plans! Of course, the style of trip you take and the sights you wish to encounter will certainly depend on your personal preferences and the time of year in which you are visiting.

Two weeks isn’t exactly a lot of time to give in order to discover every cosy corner of this history-filled island, but if it’s all the time you have, then the below will certainly give you a great selection of highlights to dip into.

Here’s how we recommend you spend two weeks in beautiful Britain

The most sensible place to begin your journey has to be in one of the major hubs of international travel that is London. Spend two days here exploring the world-renowned museums and art galleries that house some truly exceptional treasures, including the Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Museum of London, The National Gallery, The British Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Victoria and Albert Museum. Take a walk between these culture-filled buildings and enjoy the stunning architecture and serene parks as you go, and don’t forget to pay a visit to Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament for some fine examples of palatial design.

Head out of the city and straight into the countryside for a trip to view the ancient relics of Stonehenge, just two hours away. For over 5,000 years, visitors have marvelled at the monolithic stones and now it’s your turn. After this, take the short trip to the beautiful city of Bath with its natural hot spring bathhouses, gorgeous Georgian architecture and Jane Austen Centre, then immerse yourself further into the world of iconic English literature greats with a visit to Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford upon Avon. Once you have immersed yourself in the life and works of this great, head on over to Wales’ stunning Snowdonia National Park and head to the summit of Mt Snowdon on foot or by train.

Explore the beautiful villages in the Cotswolds, such as Castle Combe and Stow-On-The-Wold

Liverpool is not far away, and the city’s waterfront is an inviting place, while fans of The Beatles will love the Fab Four Taxi Tour, Beatles statues and Beatles Story permanent exhibition. Next up, head to Glasgow to discover all about the city’s history in industry and trade within the excellent museums that reside here. Take a day trip to the stunning National Park that is Loch Lomond and the Trossachs – you won’t regret it – and make your way to Scotland’s capital city. Edinburgh – the home of plenty of history, beautiful architecture and Harry Potter inspirations – is not to be missed. Explore on foot and seek out the imposing Edinburgh Castle, National Museum of Scotland, Palace of Holyroodhouse, and The Royal Mile with numerous alleyways which lead to inner city treasures.

Make the trip back to London to sample some Michelin-starred cuisine, designer shopping and West End theatre shows, and if you have time, take a day trip to the architectural gem that is Oxford before you head home and review a fortnight well spent.
