Restaurant Review: Rock and Rose, Richmond in London

By Georgie Bentley-Buckle   |

Walking into Rock and Rose is like stepping into an eccentric creatives living room. Adorned with oversized indoor plants, antiques and chandeliers mixed with a wash of brightly coloured pattern; Rock and Rose has an adventurous style that stands out among the sleepy south west London neighbourhood.

A popular drinking and dining destination with the locals, the vibrancy of this eclectic eatery is mirrored in its cocktails and internationally inspired dishes. To start: a tender, small plate of crispy pork belly with black vinegar soy and seared scallops with glass noodles, ginger and spring onion – each combining quality European produce with a nod to Asian inspired flavours.

A comprehensive menu where east meets west, Rock and Rose hits the spot when it comes to keeping a wide cross section of diners satisfied.

A comprehensive menu where east meets west, Rock and Rose hits the spot when it comes to keeping a wide cross section of diners satisfied. My guest selects an Italian signature: chicken Milanese with buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes & linguine arrabbiata. I meanwhile order a rich lamb shank massaman curry slow cooked with Malaysian spices, coconut, peanuts & roasted sweet potato. This contrasting theme continues across the menu from the Asian sharing platter of chicken gyoza, chilli salt squid, pork spring rolls & prawn crackers to the distinctively English lamb three ways: shepherd’s pie, lamb chop, lamb shoulder and green beans.

With celebrity guests including Chris Pratt, Tom Hardy and Joe Wicks, Lorraine has also been a key part of the restaurant’s recent refurbishment which features striking verdant interiors inspired by nearby Kew Gardens.

Aiming to add a touch of ‘rock n’ roll’ ethos to leafy Richmond, Rock and Rose was founded by Lorraine Angliss, restauranteur and operations director of the notorious restaurant Sticky Fingers – famously owned by Rolling Stone Bill Wyman. With celebrity guests including Chris Pratt, Tom Hardy and Joe Wicks, Lorraine has also been a key part of the restaurant’s recent refurbishment which features striking verdant interiors inspired by nearby Kew Gardens.

With past accolades including ‘Best Bar’, ‘Best Cocktail’ and ‘Best Cocktail Experience’ awarded by Cocktails in The City – this restaurant has a strong reputation for its creative cocktails headed up by Barman Adam Bozsoki who has created the Rock & Rose Martini (vanilla infused vodka, fresh passion fruit and a shot of champagne) and the Glamour Girl Martini (rose petal liqueur, Brut Blanc de Blancs, Absolut vodka, strawberry, pomegranate and fresh lemon).
