The Biltmore Mayfair, LXR Hotels and Resorts, launches the Café Biltmore Restaurant and Terrace, the brand-new offering by Jason Atherton

By Natasha Heard   |

The Café Biltmore Restaurant and Terrace by Jason Atherton, located within luxury Mayfair hotel, The Biltmore Mayfair, will launch on 21st April, inviting guests to lounge away the summer with a brand-new extended terrace. Diners can enjoy a new, relaxed menu of modern takes on world classics from Michelin-starred chef, Jason Atherton.

With the spring unfurling and the return of much-missed socialising, The Café Biltmore Restaurant and Terrace has been designed as an elegant escape amongst the bustle of vibrant Mayfair. Guests can recline in splendour on the 70-capacity terrace and sip cocktails designed to transport you to more tropical climes, from Cuba to Mexico, to San Sebastián in the Mediterranean. Surrounded by foliage covered walls, cushioned seating and heaters for when the weather is cooler or for the balmy evenings, the newly expanded terrace is this summer’s stylish sanctuary for those in-the-know.

Steamed south coast mussels with arbequina olive oil accompanied by a glass of champagne is ideal for a post-work indulgence

Having opened fine dining restaurant, The Betterment, at The Biltmore Mayfair to much acclaim in 2019, celebrated British chef Jason Atherton of The Social Company  has brought together a seasonal menu for guests to enjoy whether sharing, looking for something to go alongside a refreshing cocktail, or something a little heartier.

In contrast to the elevated, fine dining dishes The Betterment (reopening later this summer) is known for, The Café Biltmore Restaurant and Terrace will offer a more casual take on world favourites to lead diners on a culinary jaunt after months of lockdown. Cured Loch Duart salmon with ponzu dressing, lime, coriander and chilli, and Dorset crab on toast with confit lemon, natural yoghurt and sourdough are fresh and light, whilst steamed south coast mussels with arbequina olive oil accompanied by a glass of champagne is ideal for a post-work indulgence. Those with a more hearty appetite may be tempted by the crisp buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with Churchill sauce in a brioche bun or the classic grilled Dover sole with capers, lemon and parsley and citrus hollandaise.

For a sense of the Mediterranean in the heart of Mayfair, homemade pasta and wood-fired pizza is the dish of the day. Highlights include homemade penne, nduja, mascarpone and lemon and pizza topped with taleggio, red onion, Parma ham and rocket. To round off the meal, Atherton’s summer puddings include lemon tart with yoghurt sorbet or a rich Valrhona chocolate moelleux with milk ice cream.

The cocktail list is full of tempting cocktails, with highlights such as: The Biltmore Spritz with Amaro Mondino, Belsazar Dry, lime, rosemary water and tonic – an ode to English summer gardens, whilst Sebastián’s Sunset with Gin Mare, Pedro Ximenez, dry vermouth, bitters and tonic takes us to northern Spain. Lilac sunsets are poured into Violet Sky with sloe gin, Belvedere Vodka, violet, lemon, sugar and egg white, while non-alcoholic concoctions include Spiced Mandarin, featuring Seedlip Spice 94, oolong tea, mandarin, lime, rosemary, agave and ginger beer. Meanwhile, the sommelier team has chosen a selection of the finest wines to be enjoyed on the terrace too, or for those wanting to celebrate the return to indulgence, a chilled glass of champagne awaits.

Jason Atherton hopes to help people enjoy celebrating missed special occasions along with casual meet-ups

Jason Atherton commented: “After months at home, I wanted to create the opportunity for people to socialise once again, and the beautiful surroundings of The Biltmore Mayfair – with an outdoor terrace now almost double the size of its previous form – was the perfect place to realise this. It offers escapism, but at the same time, a much-needed return to the familiar. I hope people will enjoy the relaxed café-style menu we have created for The Café Biltmore Restaurant and Terrace, whether it’s for a casual meet-up amongst friends or to celebrate a special birthday that was missed. We cannot wait to bring people back to Mayfair.”

The Café Biltmore Restaurant and Terrace will open with outdoor seating only on 21st April. Following the anticipated lifting of government restrictions on indoor hospitality on 17th May, indoor seating will become available. The Biltmore Mayfair hotel will also open on 17th May.
